Never Miss a Moment

When it comes to sports, this homeowner doesn’t like to rely on the instant replay. Instead, he has an entertainment system that’s sprinkled throughout the property so that it’s virtually impossible to miss a moment of the action.

That system includes a fleet of HDTVs in every corner—including the spot dedicated to entertaining outdoors. EDG installed the entire lineup, which includes TVs in the five bedrooms, as well as two offices, a breakfast room, and even the master bathroom. This means the homeowner can host a large number of guests for movies and sporting events and have them enjoy the featured attraction both inside and out.

The volume of entertainment is amazing, but that outdoor space is particularly impressive. While most are thrilled to have a decent barbecue, this home has a full outdoor kitchen to serve guests, all while keeping them entertained via a 32-inch TV that rises from the counter. Friends and family can also stay engaged and up-to-date on scores as they move from the food area to the comfy couches on the porch. This is a great spot to lounge and enjoy the outdoor fireplace or whatever is playing on the 55-inch HDTV, which EDG put on a lift that can tuck the set into the ceiling when it’s not in use. The other side of that space has a massive 65-inch HDTV. Both areas share four Sonance LS47SAT outdoor speakers and one LS10SUB in-ground subwoofer. Another six speakers and in-ground subwoofer provide a soundtrack out by the pool.

Of course, there are just as many A/V options inside. There’s a 16-zone distributed video setup with five DIRECTV HD DVR boxes, two Apple TV media players, a Blu-ray player, and the Kaleidescape Cinema One Movie Server stacked in the equipment racks that are tucked out of site.

That system also feeds content to a basement media room, designed to accommodate a crowd that’s thirsty for both entertainment and refreshments. Comfy seating fills out the space in front of the 135-inch Stewart Filmscreen StudioTek 130 screen. Off to the side, there’s a stylish bar area, with stools that also deliver a perfect view. That big screen is paired up with an Epson PowerLite Pro Z8455WUNL 3LCD Projector and Steinway Lyngdorf in-wall speakers, as well as media from all of the aforementioned video sources.

These rooms and many other spots are linked by another entertainment system. A 26-zone music setup can stream music to Sonance in-wall speakers located in the two offices, the downstairs gym, the family room, the master bedroom and bathroom, the loggia, and more. A Control4 matrix switch doles out content from a pair of AudioControl Architect Model 1660 16-channel amplifiers, two Crown Audio CDi 1000 2-channel amps, and Autonomic’s MMS-2 media server with AirPlay for streaming music wirelessly from any iOS device.

All of the home’s A/V is tied into a whole-house Control4 system that was designed to make a complex setup very easy to use. The house has 7-inch in-wall touchscreens and Control4 remotes located throughout, so the owner can tap into the audio and video, as well as seven zones of HVAC and over 100 zones of lighting.

The HVAC system starts at the equipment rack, where the Control4 thermostats are located. Those communicate with temperature sensors throughout the house. Because the master bedroom and basement media room are very different spaces, having these sensors can create a perfect temperature setting for every inch of the house. That control even extends to the Jandi interface outside, providing the perfect temperature for both the pool and the spa.

To accommodate each of these electronic systems, EDG also updated the home’s Wi-Fi setup. The upgraded system features a Pakedge network, complete with a controller and six wireless access points. Having that type of coverage strengthens the network all over the house, so whether the homeowner is streaming content to Apple TV boxes, DVRs, smart TVs, or smartphones, the connection will be reliable.

Besides entertainment, easy control was a must in this space. That’s provided through the many Control4 controllers and keypads throughout the house, which makes it simple to access the audio, video, HVAC, and lighting systems, as well as a smart garage and front door intercom.
