From the Corner Office
We are fortunate this month to hear from the Editor of Residential
Systems Magazine, Jeremy Glowacki. Jeremy helped launch and
create Residential Systems in 2000.
Open House
by Jeremy Glowacki
Editor, Residential Systems Magazine
There’s a beta fish named Logo living in the art department of this magazine’s midtown Manhattan office. If there was ever a metaphor for New York City-style living, it’s that little black fish in a bowl the size of a “Friends-style” coffee cup.
When you make the move to the Big Apple from almost anywhere else, you quickly learn to pare down your worldly possessions to what basically can fit into a junior-sized U-Haul truck. Apartments in New York (we all live in apartments) are small, and closet space is
minimal. When holidays roll

FAQ
Q. I’m designing a master bathroom for my clients. The husband wants a TV next to the sink but his wife does not want electronics to show in the bathroom. Can EDG help with a bathroom installation?
A.
Since TVs in bathrooms have become a standard, EDG has completed a number of projects with hidden and visible bathroom installations. We find that clients like to “listen” to the news while in the shower or shaving. One option is to install a flat screen just to the left or right of the vanity mirror or above the commode, depending on client preference. In order to have a relaxing environment, others choose to place TVs within viewing distance of the soaking tub so as to “watch and wash”. However, for a sleek and hidden installation, television mirrors have built-in screens that vanish when the TV is not in use and are convenient for a more discriminating client. For more product information or to speak with a systems consultant, contact EDG.
Q.
My company is working on a multiple dwelling unit (MDU) project. I’d like to incorporate A/V and lighting in the amenities spaces and lobby area. How can EDG help with its design?
A.
The incorporation of A/V and lighting control in MDU projects is growing in popularity with builders and their buyers. To have a successful project, your integration firm must be involved as early as possible in system design and installation for a smooth project completion. EDG has experience working with builders in designing systems that fit within their scope of work, budget, and clients’ expectations. We can also work directly with the buyer if construction has been completed and they want to retro-fit a system. EDG will clarify any technical questions or concerns for you or your buyers. LEARNING ABOUT AND EXPERIENCING THE BENEFITS OF
LUTRON LIGHTING CONTROL IS NOW SIMPLER THAN EVER
PISCATAWAY, NJ, June 29, 2007 - Electronics Design Group, a 20 year veteran in the field of custom electronic installation located in Piscatway, NJ, has recently completed the design and installation of Lighting, Audio, Video, and Systems Integration for Lutron Electronics at their Customer Experience and Education Center located at their world headquarters in Coopersburg, Pennsylvania.
The Customer Experience Center is designed to give visitors a first-hand lighting control experience in a home-like business setting. The 4,000 square foot space contains numerous vignettes representing rooms in a home: kitchen, family room, foyer, master bedroom, patio, gallery and home theater.
Electronics Design Group worked closely with Lutron to design and install the lighting control system. Using a variety of Lutron products, from single-light dimmers to whole-home lighting control and shading systems, the finished installation showcases EDG’s ability to execute sophisticated systems.
In addition to Lutron lighting control Electronics Design Group installed the following integrated systems throughout the Experience Center:
-
7-zone multi-room audio system
-
Distributed video
-
6-seat home theater
-
HVAC control
"Customers have been very excited about our experience center and traffic continues to increase,” stated Kathie Leslie, Director of Customer Education for Lutron. “The opportunity to see and experience the convenience home technologies offer homeowners has resulted in many builders and designers standardizing on Lutron products and technologies."
