From the Corner Office

What is HD Radio?
by Jason Knott
Editor, CE Pro Magazine
Orson Welles' 1938 radio broadcast of "War of the Worlds" is still credited as the greatest hoax ever perpetrated on the American public. The mass hysteria created from the CBS Mercury Theater program catapulted Welles to fame. To this day, it is probably the most successful radio broadcast in history.
Nearly 80 years later, another great radio marketing gimmick is also misleading the public -- HD Radio -- and it might just become the most successful radio format in history. What does the "HD" in HD Radio stand for? The assumption, of course, is that it stands for "high definition," an acronym that has become ubiquitous in the electronics industry.
In fact, the "HD" abbreviation in HD Radio has never been officially articulated; the

FAQ
Q. I recently bought a plasma TV for my family room but need help finding the right wall mount for it. What should I consider when purchasing a mount?
A.
For your reference, we’ve outlined the following most popular and frequently used mounts:
-
Flat Wall Mount: This option is the most commonly used. It
allows the plasma to remain closest to the
wall, adding about 2 inches to the depth of
the TV.
-
Tilt Wall Mount: This option is used when placing the plasma TV higher than the desired eye level. It typically allows 15° to 20° of tilt, depending upon the brand. It’s commonly used above a fireplace or on a bedroom wall. A tilt wall mount adds 4" to 6" to the overall depth of the plasma display when mounted.
-
Articulating Wall Mount: This type of mount uses a swivel arm which
folds up when not in use, allowing the plasma
to be "flush mounted" against the wall like the
tilt wall mount. It adds 3” to 4” to the depth of
the plasma mount depending on the
manufacturer. It has maximum flexibility
because it can turn 120° to either side and tilt
up to 10-15°.
-
Table Stand: Most plasma TVs come with their own matching
table stand, used wherever there's enough table-top space to support the TV and are custom made to manufacturers’ specifications. The stands will generally hold the plasma TV 2.5” to 4” from the table. Table stands allow for a sharp look and maximum flexibility, because the TV is not permanently affixed to the wall.
Also, keep in mind that optimal viewing angles are highly dependent on room configuration and size, both of which affect positioning of your TV. Proper ventilation of your television is important to consider so make sure the mount you choose gives enough space between the TV and wall for optimal heat removal.

EDG RANKS 8TH IN THE NATION
Veteran NJ Systems Integration Firm Scores 5th Consecutive Top 10 Position
PISCATAWAY, NJ, May, 25, 2007 - Electronics Design Group (EDG), a recognized leader in the field of systems integration, has been ranked 8th by CE Pro Magazine in their annual CE Pro 100 which highlights the top system integration firms throughout the nation. This marks the 5th year in a row that EDG has been listed in the top 10 among the top tier systems integration firms in the United States. The magazine also compiled an additional list of “Top Custom-Only Integrators” where EDG slotted the 3rd position.
The formula used to determine the rankings is gross revenue for multisystem residential installations that incorporate at least three subsystems which may include Audio, HVAC control, lighting controls, structured wiring systems, telecommunication systems, video, whole house automation/integration, PC networks, and window covering controls.
EDG continues to hold the distinction of being the only NJ firm to appear in the top 25 since CE Pro began compiling their list in 1999.
“This is great for EDG and great for consumers in the State of New Jersey,” said Nick Lehotzky, Marketing Manager for EDG. “Consumers in the Tri-State area can feel confident, by way of our consistent position in the CE Pro 100, that EDG will design, engineer and install a sophisticated “smart home” system, theater, media room, light control system or PC network that exceeds their expectations today, and that we will be there in the future to service their needs as technology advances.”
The rankings hit newsstands in May 2007.
