EDG's Calendar of Events

As you’ve probably noticed, EDG puts a high price on knowledge, specifically, that of new products and technologies, industry trends, and seamless installations. Because we work with so many different trades, we like to keep them informed of upcoming seminars, trade shows and other events where they can learn about our industry, increase their knowledge of how electronics improve everyday life, and provide their clients with well-trained advice on systems, to name just a few.

In an effort to pass on our appreciation for knowledge, this month’s Corner Office is a calendar of events EDG is participating in and a way to inform our trade community of opportunities to expand their awareness of products, developments, and solutions that enhance their business.

We are truly excited to be a part of the events listed below that support our partners and a good cause. We hope to see you at some, or all, of the venues.

Best regards,

Bob Gullo

FAQ

Q. With the increased focus on energy efficiency in the US and abroad, how would a home integration system help me “go green”?

A. The answer to that question can get lengthy but we can give you some examples on how a home integration system can help you be “green-friendly”.

  1. Light Control - This is a great way to save on energy cost and bulb life by taking advantage of time clocks including astronomical functions, predetermined dimmed light levels, and powerful buttons like "House Off", "Good Night", and "Vacation“.

  2. Motorized Shades and Drapery - Control how natural light is effecting your fine furnishings and the temperature of given spaces by utilizing time clocks, light sensing features, and astronomical time clocks.

  3. HVAC Integration - By creating different zones of HVAC and having the ability to adjust all zones from one location you can create an energy efficient home. Also, off site capabilities via the internet can help you manage vacation homes.

You can always contact an EDG systems sales rep for other "green" considerations.

Q. I live in a town that frequently has “black outs”.  How will a “black out” affect my system?

A. First let’s distinguish between two different types of power outages, “black outs” and “brown outs”.  A “black out” is the total loss of power for a period of time.  A “brown out” is quick on/off of the power.  Each of these poses a different set of problems.

The “black out” is the easiest to deal with.  Most electronic systems will turn off and, usually, turn on to the state they were previously in prior to the “black out” without loosing any programming.  For this scenario a surge suppression system is needed to prevent equipment damage as the power will spike upon startup.

A “brown out” is a bit more concerning as power is essentially skipping a beat causing your gear to be in limbo for a brief second.  Most electronic systems have a point at which they turn off.  If the “brown out” voltage is within that point/range, then the systems may or may not turn off.  An uninterruptible power supply (UPS) reduces the effects of both conditions.

NJ Firm to Teach at the World's Largest Annual Lighting Trade Show & Conference

Electronics Design Group will present a Lighting Control seminar at the 18th annual Lightfair International Trade Show and Conference

PISCATAWAY, NJ, April 27, 2007 - Electronics Design Group (EDG), an industry leader in the field of "smart home" technology, will present a seminar titled Practical Applications for Residential Lighting Control at the 2007 LIGHTFAIR International Trade Show and Conference on Tuesday, May 8th, 2007 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York.  The seminar will begin at 4:30pm and be given by Scott Jordan, EDG's Systems Consultant who has more than 20 years experience in the systems integration industry, bringing a wealth of knowledge and innovation to designing complex, high-end electronic systems for private residential homes, commercial applications, and multiple dwelling units.

The class on Practical Applications for Residential Lighting Control will allow for a better understanding of the benefits of lighting control systems in residential apartment and standard house spaces like the kitchen, foyer, dining room, media room, and landscape areas. Through examining case studies, class participants will evaluate various control scenarios and define areas in a project where lighting control systems can improve aesthetics, enhance functionality, and increase efficiency for the end-user. Sponsored by the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IESNA), LIGHTFAIR International, now in its 18th year, is a four-day trade show and conference running May 6-10, 2007 and is truly the premier North American venue to learn about the importance of lighting in our lives and communities.  With over 19,000 expected attendees, LFI has a proven track record of bringing top international and domestic Architectural, Design, Engineering and End User professionals together.
