Part IV

Real Life Example: The Finished Product

Back in June 2003 we published the first of a four part series documenting a real life project explaining and detail ing the various stages of a hidden media room project. Each section contained photos, drawings, and text to demonstrate how one of these complex projects come about.

Part 1: The Planning Stage walked you through the thought process of transforming a family room into a hidden technology masterpiece.

Then we documented the Design Stage in Part 2. Here we reviewed CAD drawings and sketches to see how everything will fit together.

Part 3: The Installation Process took things a step further. The equi pment and installation were compete. It was now time for the millworker and interior designers to do their magic.

Well the time is almost here to show you the finished product. But, you'll have to stay tuned to next month's issue to see the dramatic transformation.

FAQ

Q. The image coming from my projector is blurry and the colors aren't as vivid anymore. What's going on?

A. Your projector may be in need of ISF (Imaging Science Foundation) calibration. ISF calibration is an in-depth adjustment of every aspect of picture. It is done right in your home so that your viewing environment is accounted for. It gives you better color and a noticeably sharper picture. EDG has certified ISF technicians available to make sure your projector is reaching its full potential. Q. What movies are available on both of the new high-definition DVD formats?

A. You can see a list of available titles by clicking here.

Q. Can a lighting control system provide enhanced security for my home?

A. Enhanced security is provided in several ways. First a lighting control system that has Astronomic and hourly timers built into the system will provide a lived in look, regardless of the time of year. With sunset changing day to day and season to season, the exterior lighting will always be on the proper setting with respect to the level of darkness. For example, sunset in February is drastically different than sunset in July. So, the exterior of a home needs a greater light level at sunset till say 11:00 PM, and much less light at 3:00 AM to have the same perceived brightness. Provided that the exterior loads are dimmed, this level of operation can be achieved.

The system also has a vacation mode, that when activated will make the interior of the home look lived in. The system records the current status of the lights in the home and stores 1, 7 or 14 days of information. When activated the system starts to replay the previously recorded light settings. This provides a nearly impossible situation for a burglar to detect the vacant home on the street.
