From the Corner Office
I am very excited to turn this month’s Corner Office section over to
our guest columnist Cindy Davis. With over twenty years in
publishing Cindy Davis landed her favorite job six years ago as the
Editor-in-Chief of Electronic House and Home Electronic Ideas
magazines. Davis enjoys her own home theater which comprises a
50-inch plasma and a great surround system. She adds new home
systems as her budget allows!

by Cindy Davis,
Editor-in-Chief of Electronic House and Home Electronic Ideas
I don’t know about you, but it helps me to see and experience something to really “get it.” The question I hear most of the time from my friends and acquaintances is “Is HDTV really worth it?” That’s like asking “Is having a microwave oven really worth it?” In 1970, a microwave oven seemed like a frivolous kitchen gadget that exploded chicken in a spectacular manner, but by 1975, nobody could live without one.

FAQ
Q. Can an LCD TV be used as a Computer Monitor too?
A. Yes, provided that the LCD television has VGA connections. But, before you purchase that 30" LCD, consider the uses. If you're a gamer and seeking a large montor to play on, a 30-inch LCD can be a very impressive computer monitor. But, the additional costs of standard TV features like built in tuners and A/V inputs may be extras that you do not need if you're only using this as a monitor.

How do YOU get to work?
EDG Employee takes a creative approach to beating the MTA strike
January 4, 2006 - Last month’s MTA strike left some without a clue as to how they would get to work and run their errands, while others, like Tim Brennan took a creative approach. On day 2 of the agonizing strike, Brennan, a Project Manager at Electronics Design Group (EDG), an award winning audio/video systems integration firm based out of Piscataway, New Jersey, used his skateboard – skating 38 blocks uptown - to make a 9am client meeting in New York City.
Traveling from his South Jersey home, Brennan took the nearly desolate Atlantic Highlands SeaStreak ferry to Pier 11 on East 34th Street. Watching the strike coverage on television the night before, he was already dreading his trip into the city. Knowing it would be virtually impossible to hail a cab and if he did, he would be at the mercy of the hardened cab
