Lighting Control: "Real" Everyday Applications

What this article is not about: turning on your toaster or coffee pot, activating your bird or cat feeder, and other goofy things like that.

This article is a "day in the life" of a lighting control user, explaining how and why lighting control makes life simpler and enhances your home.

When we program our clients lighting control system, we do so with you in mind; your home, your lifestyle, your house, your needs….

Here we go……….real practical everyday applications.

Car visor control

The car visor (see pic) has two primary functions- 'home” and "away". When leaving the house in the morning I select the "away" button. This button turns off all lights left on. What a simple way to leave the house.

FAQ

Q. What are the differences between the Kaleidescape System and a DVD changer?

A. The Kaleidescape System is a DVD hard drive system technology which makes it possible to view the same or different DVDs simultaneously from multiple viewing locations. Patent-pending video bookmarks allow the user to start a movie from wherever they want; that can be the start of the main feature, or a favorite scene. And the bookmarks issue event messages to an AMX or Crestron control system at significant events, like the beginning of the movie where the lights will dim, curtains will open and the appropriate screen masking will take effect. DVD changers play only one movie at a time, they are dedicated to only one viewing location at a time, and have a long lag time to finding-loading-playing a DVD.

Q. What home systems can be integrated into a touchpanel control system?

A. The home systems, or sub-systems as we refer to them, are the same every day systems you find throughout the home. All of these systems are controllable: HVAC (Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning), Audio, Video, Lighting Control, Motorized Shades and Drapes, Security and Cameras, Pool and Spa, Gates and Garage doors, and more. These systems can be controlled individually or in conjunction with each other. One of the most common examples would be getting ready to watch a movie. By selecting the "Movie" button on a touchpanel, the lights will dim, the audio and video system turns on, and the curtains open.
