FAQ

Q. Several thunderstorms have rolled through my neighborhood in the past few weeks. Is keeping the TV and other electronics off during a storm enough to prevent a power surge from damaging my equipment?

A. Absolutely not. As long as the electrical equipment (TV, DVD player, VCR, well pump, A/C units, security cameras) is plugged in you run the risk of damage to your electronics due to lightning strikes and power surges. Even the best power strips are not a viable preventative solution to these surges. The most effective solution would be a surge protection system that arrests surges at or near the point where electric power, telephone and cable or satellite TV services enter your home. EDG offers a Solution for surge protection. Contact the Service Department for further information.

Q. I live in a Manhattan apartment and I want to add a lighting control system. Tearing up the walls to add wiring in not an option. Are there any options available to me?

A. Yes, Lutron offers a home dimming system that can be installed in any home, new or existing, without rewiring. A NCY apartment is the perfect venue for this product. The system uses radio frequency to communicate with safeguards in place and over 250 unique codes that will prevent any interference with stray signals. It's a great solution for your situation.

Q. Is it possible to add a plasma or projection screen above a fire place?

A. Yes, but (there's always a but) there are a few questions that need to be answered. Do you have a mantle? How deep is the mantle? The mantle will deflect any direct heat the fire place gives off. Due to varying factors each situation should be consulted on a case-by-case scenario.
