Electronics Design Group Wins Two “Home of the Year” Awards

Work of local electronics integrator recognized by Electronic House Magazine

PISCATAWAY, N.J.- March 18 2009-

Two projects by Electronics Design Group, a designer and installer of high-end electronic systems, have been recognized by Electronic House Magazine. They’ve won Gold Level awards in the publication’s “Home of the Year” competition in the Best Fun Room and Best Kitchen categories. 310 projects were submitted to the magazine this year and 39 received awards. Winners were selected based on technological innovation, creative solutions to challenges, and design elements. EDG was the only firm to win two Gold Level awards.“It is an honor to be recognized by Electronic House once again,” says Bob Gullo, president of EDG. “Our team outdid themselves with these unique projects, both of which involve unusual design challenges that less
experienced integrators might have struggled with. We believe it’s our job to always deliver
the highest quality solutions to our clients, and do everything in our power to meet their goals.”

Best Fun Room

The Best Fun Room award went to an installation done
in Locust on the New Jersey Shore titled “The Fun Life
Aquatic.” In a home built in the style of a sprawling
Italian villa, the client requested an entertaining area
designed around an impressive 15,000 gallon saltwater
aquarium. Three main areas make up the Fun Room.

In the main room is a bar and seating area that features
a 60-inch wall mounted plasma HDTV, two 26-inch
LCD HDTVs, and speakers hidden inwall and in-ceiling
that deliver music from several sources accessible via a
distributed audio system.

Next, hidden beneath a retractable ceiling mural, is an
EDG-designed discotheque system that turns the area
in front of the aquarium into a dance floor at the touch
of a button. The rigging controls an active array of
gel spotlights, effects projectors, disco balls, and
professional PA speakers. Music can be fed from the
home’s audio servers or from a portable DJ stand
that plugs right in.

Finally, there’s a 7-seat dedicated home theater that
adjoins the main room. It features a Runco projector, surround sound from an audio system with equipment
by Rotel and B&W, and a starlight ceiling.

Best Kitchen home automation system

The Best Kitchen award went to a project called
“Kitchen Magic,” done in a New York City apartment. The client requested a whole home control and entertainment system as part of a renovation, with the kitchen a focal point of the installation. Limited space for equipment and the desire to maintain a clean, uncluttered aesthetic meant finding creative solutions for hiding and
placing the gear.home automation system

The audio/video features in the kitchen include a plasma
display that lifts out of a countertop as well as access to
the music collection stored in the multi-room audio
system. Each feature is manipulated by touch panel
controllers.

For control of the climate and lighting, the kitchen
features an automated Lutron Sivoia shade system which
manages natural light and heat with an astronomical
timeclock. Crestron thermostats are integrated with the
central control system of the home, fed by remote
temperature sensors to allow for clean walls.

EDG has won four Electronic House awards in the past,
including two in the magazine’s first annual competition
held in 2006. They took home one more in 2007 and
another in 2008. The company has also received a total
of 21 Electronic Lifestyles Awards from the industry
group CEDIA, more than any other electronics integrator.
